On September 7th and 8th, 6000 athletes are expected for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship for the first time in France, in Nice. The sporting competition covers half the distance compared to the Ironman 140.6, also known as the "Half Ironman".

Athletes and onlookers experience a real sporting festival in the heart of the Côte d’Azur's capitalNice was selected as the host city as it's the third most popular destination on the long track and is easy to reach with one of the biggest airports in France.

Participants, the world's best elite athletes, are selected from 100 qualifying events in locations such as Austria, China, Germany, Spain and South Africa.

The women will start Saturday and men on Sunday at 7:00 am on the Plage des Ponchettes swimming 1.9km in the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. Then they'll put pedal to the metal cycling over 90km as they explore the Nice hinterland scenery and climb up Col de Vence. To end on a high, they'll run twice on the famous  palm tree-lined Promenade des Anglais.
